Carol A. McGonagle, a resident of Wakefield and former 22-year resident of Saugus and longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. She was 81 years of age.

Carol was born in Somerville on June 14, 1944, a daughter of the late James H. McGonagle and Helen (O'Connell) McGonagle. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1963. Carol worked at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as a Clerical Secretary and retired following 30 years of dedicated employment. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and in her spare time, Carol enjoyed visiting casinos and meeting up for lunch with her longtime friends from Charlestown especially Maureen O'Connor and Mary O'Keefe who have been the closest of friends for over 70 years.

Carol is the devoted mother of Brian Santos and his partner Lisa-Marie Abraham. She is the loving Nana to Bram Wyatt Santos. She is the beloved sister of the late Robert McGonagle and his wife Masako, Eleanor Downey and her husband David and James McGonagle and his wife Dorothy. She is also survived by her dedicated nephews Kevin Downey and David Downey and her many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carol's visiting hours on Friday morning, May 29, 2026, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 12 Noon in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be private.
