Obituary

Diane Louise (Cook) Eadie, 79, of Rye Beach, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Donald and Beverly (Jordan) Cook. Her life was defined by service and a deep connection to nature.

Diane’s memory will be carried forward by her daughter, Bonnie Eadie of Charlestown, MA, her two nieces Caitlin Eadie of Goldens Bridge, NY and Allison Eadie of New York, NY, and by the many lives she touched through her teaching and advocacy.

Diane was born in Bellevue, OH on September 24, 1946. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from SUNY Potsdam and later a Master of Education in School Counseling from Notre Dame College in New Hampshire. Her early career was marked by her devotion to students with diverse learning needs. She was a beloved Teacher’s Aide across the country, serving at Plum Grove School in Columbus, MI; the Rim of the World School District in Blue Jay, CA; and the Vacaville Unified School District in California. When settled in New Hampshire, she worked with neurodiverse junior high students at the Seacoast Learning Collaborative.

Later, she transitioned into crisis mediation, serving as Co-Counselor at the Plaistow District Court Mediation Program in New Hampshire. There, she provided vital support and evaluation for at-risk juveniles and their families. She also served for many years at the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, where she was responsible for natural resources program development. Most recently, Diane combined her love for teaching with her passion for the outdoors as a Seasonal Naturalist at the Seacoast Science Center in Odiorne Point State Park, Rye, NH. Her shoreline geology and microscope classes were part of innovative programs that reached over 60,000 families annually, sparking a love for coastal science in generations of visitors.

Beyond her professional life, Diane was a fierce advocate for New Hampshire conservation. Her leadership was instrumental in preserving the state’s natural beauty; she served as President, Vice President and Board Member of the New Hampshire Association of Conservation Commissions (1994-2000) and spent years as the Chairperson for the Conservation Commission in Kingston, NH. While working with the Land Conservation Investment Program in Kingston from 1987-1994, Diane successfully negotiated the protection of over 300 acres of wildlife corridors within the Powwow River system. Her tireless efforts earned her the Trust for New Hampshire Lands Recognition award. In a lasting tribute to her work, a piece of conservation land in Kingston was named after her in 1992. Today, “E.T.’s Landing” remains a haven for hikers, skiers, and nature lovers—a living testament to her dedication.

Diane also found joy in boating, horseback riding, skiing, ice skating, playing the piano and singing in the church choir. She instilled her sense of wonder, curiosity, and independence in her daughter as well. Above all, she was a "helper." She gave her time and heart to many charities supporting animals, veterans, nature and children, always striving to leave the world better than she found it.

We hope you will think of Diane when you walk along the ocean, hear a piano, strap into your ski boots, and take a quiet moment to admire the beauty of the natural world.
