Dorothy A. "Dot" (Hanlon) McNeil, a lifelong Charlestown resident and proud Townie, entered into eternal life suddenly on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 91 years of age.
Dot was born in Boston, a daughter of the late John J. Hanlon and Agnes E. (O'Brien) Hanlon. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Julie Billiart High School in the North End of Boston in 1949. Dot worked as a Payroll Administrator for Filenes Basement Distribution Center, and previously for New England Telephone Company. She enjoyed all animals (but had a special place in her heart for cats), playing bingo, gardening and traveling to the casino's with her sisters Mae and Joan. Above all else, Dot loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dot is the beloved wife of 71 years to Retired Boston Police Officer Charles J. McNeil. She is the devoted mother of Charlene Poliskey and her husband Jerry, Joan Swift and her husband Tim, Paula McEwen and her husband Kevin, Charles McNeil and the late Stephen C. McNeil. She is the loving Nana to Chet and his wife Gina, Jaimo, Kelly and her fiancé Josh, Shawn, Jonathan, Michael and his wife Lindsay, Lois and her fiancé Chris, Kaitlyn, Pauline, Brighid, Niamh, Matthew, the late Declan, and Nana Dot to her great-grandchildren Ashlee, Sorcha, Giuliana, Sharleigh, Hanna, Oliver, Anderson, Adaline, and Eleanor. She is the beloved sister of Mary "Mae" Prince, David Hanlon, and the late Joan M. Farley. She is the dear friend of Clare Senna. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews and her 2 cats Minnie and Lucy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dot's visiting hours on Saturday morning, April 29, 2023 from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington will be private.
