Earl L. "Chub" Melvin, a 7 year resident of Somerville and formerly from Chelsea and Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Winchester Nursing Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 84 years of age.
Chub was born in Malden on October 22, 1931, a son of the late Allison H. Melvin and Helen V. (Payne) Melvin. He grew up in in Charlestown and attended public schools. Chub was a jack of all trades, working as a bricklayer, painter, and in maintenance for the Charlestown Boys Club.
Chub is the beloved father of Roy Melvin and his wife Nancy, Deborah Feeley and her husband Frank, Ronald Melvin and his wife Jean, Patricia Goodwin and her husband Kevin, William Melvin, and Robert Melvin and his wife Sherri. He is the loving Papa to 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Norma Johnson, Charles Melvin, Richard Melvin, and the late Allison H. Melvin Jr. Helen D. Arnold, David F. Melvin, Daniel Melvin, and Betty Blaikie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Chubs Visiting Hours on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. with his Funeral Service at 7:30 P.M. in the funeral home. His burial will be private.
