Obituary

Elizabeth C. "Betty" (McGeoghegan) Murphy a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Sunday December 10, 2006 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following a lengthly illness. She was 78 years old.

Betty was born in Boston, and grew up in Charlestown, where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1946. She worked for several years as a Home Health Aid in the Boston area until she began raising her own family.

Betty is the beloved wife of 56 years to Garrett J. Murphy (Ret. B.F.D. Fireboat). She is the loving mother of Christine Brems of Dracut, Eileen Murphy of Winthrop, Mary Capistran and her husband Joseph of Wakefield, Patrick Murphy and his wife May of Somerville. She is the devoted grandmother of Kristen and Steven V. Poole, Patrice and Kaitlyn Brems, Ashley, Mary Frances and Garrett Murphy and Caroline and Coleen Capistran. Betty is the beloved sister of the late Mary Devlin.

Betty's Funeral will take place from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours for Betty will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
