Francis X. "Franny" Ahern, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Sunday April 15, 2007 at Bayside Manor Nursing Home in Wakefield after a long illness. He was 81 years old.
Franny was born in Boston on March 24, 1925. He grew up in Charlestown and attended Boston Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Navy and served during World War 2 and was discharged on December 12, 1944. Franny worked as a longshoreman on the Boston waterfront for many years and was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association Union Local # 799.
Franny is the beloved husband of the late Theresa (McDermott) Ahern. He is the beloved father of Sharon Ahern of Boston. He is the beloved brother of the late John, William, Joseph, James, Gerry Ahern and Mary Luna. He is the loving uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Franny's Funeral will be held on Friday April 20, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Catherine's Church, 49 Vine St. Charlestown at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Franny will be held on Thursday April 19, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, kindly make memorial donations in Franny's name to Doug Flutie Autism Center.
