Helen A. (Sullivan) Cotter, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Easter Sunday April 5, 2026. She was 88 years old.
Helen was born in Boston on May 4, 1937, a daughter of the late Daniel Sullivan and Anne (Flynn) Sullivan. She grew up in Charlestown, where she attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Mt. St. Joseph’s High School in 1955. Helen worked as a telephone operator for the telephone company for several years, and then for State Street and Fleet Banks. She also worked as a clerk for Carmen’s Pharmacy. She loved her grandchildren, was an avid Boston Sports Fan, and enjoyed summering in Kingston and Hampton, NH. She loved traveling to some of her favorite places, including Hawaii, Aruba, and Bermuda. She was also a member of the Friends of Charlestown Elderly.
Helen is the proud mother of her 3 boys; Paul Cotter and his wife Eileen, James Cotter and his wife Nina, and Michael Cotter (USMC). She is the beloved Grandma of Catherine Cotter, Boston Firefighter Kaileen Cotter, Fiona Cotter, the late James E. Cotter Jr., and great-grandma to Catherine and Daisy. She is the dear sister of Margaret “Peggy” Watts, Judy Burns, and the late Ann Marie Winkler, Eileen Kelly, Daniel Sullivan, Edward Sullivan, Albert Sullivan, Gerald Sullivan, John “Jack” Sullivan, William Sullivan, and retired Boston Fire Department Lieutenant Robert Sullivan. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen’s Funeral on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10 A.M. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. Her Burial will be private. Her visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
