Helen C. (Macdonald) Harrison, a 62 year resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday August 6, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. She was 87 years old.
Helen was born in Quincy, she grew up in Somerville where she attended Little Flower School in St. Benedict's Parish in Somerville and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Somerville. She worked in The Boston Naval Shipyard in Charlestown during World War ll where she met her late husband Jack. Helen was employed for many years at The Charlestown Branch of The Boston Public Library, in her spare time she created and donated to neighbors, friends and Charlestown children more than 160 Albums of "The Hero of The American Revolution". Helen was also a volunteer crochet teacher.
Helen is the beloved wife of the late John E. Harrison with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. She is the devoted mother of Joanne Harrison and John E. "Jake" Harrison Jr. both of Charlestown and Donald G. Harrison and his wife Amy of Texas. She is the loving grandmother of Jack and Joshua Harrison. She is also survived by 2 nieces, 2 nephews and 7 great-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen's Funeral Mass on Monday morning, August 11, 2008 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. There are no visiting hours and burial is private.
Memorial donations maybe made in Helen's name to The Schepens Eye Research Institute, 20 Staniford St. Boston, Mass. 02114.
