Obituary

Irene B. (Swales) Eatherton, a life-long resident of Charlestown entered into eternal life on Thursday March 10, 2022 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 71 years of age.

Irene was born in Boston on October 10, 1950, daughter of the late George Swales and Avis (Mingo) Swales. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system. Irene was a caring and kind person with a lust for life.

Irene is the devoted mother of Philip Eatherton and his wife Diane Eatherton of Tewksbury and the late Scott Eatherton. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, Kamryn and Sheila Etherton. Sister of Alice Smith of Reading and Barbara McGuire of Middleton and the late George, James, Robert, Edward, Paul and Joe Swales, Eleanor Connolly and Mildred Dora. She is also survived by her life-long companion John Dora and many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Irene's visiting hours on Wednesday March 16, 2022 from 6-8PM in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St., Charlestown.
