Obituary

J. Ruth (McLaughlin) Thornell, a 10 year resident of Littleton and formerly of Charlestown, died on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Emerson Hospital in Concord following a lengthy illness. She was 86 years old.

Ruth was born in Boston on August 12, 1924 to the late John L. and Katherine E. (Dineen) McLaughlin. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from high school. Ruth began working for New England Telephone Company in Boston at the beginning of World War II and worked there for almost 50 years before retiring as a Computer Programmer.

Ruth is the beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Thornell. She is the beloved sister of the late John L. McLaughlin Jr. She is the loving aunt of Jean Burg and her husband Edward and their children; Eric and Caroline Burg all of Littleton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth's visiting hours on Tuesday morning, May 10, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 a.m. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Malden.
