John J. “Jay” McCabe III, a resident of Medford and formerly of Charlestown, was welcomed into Heaven on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 54 years old.
Jay was a deeply loved husband, son, brother, family member, and friend. Jay had an enormous heart and an extraordinary mind. Exceptionally sharp and endlessly curious, he had a wonderful sense of humor, an unmistakable smile that could light up a room, and a rare way of making people feel welcome, valued, and at ease. He genuinely cared about others, took an interest in their lives, and instinctively put the people around him first.
A gifted golfer, Jay loved the game and everything around it—the laughter, conversations, friendships, and time spent with people he cared about. He brought happiness with him and had a way of turning ordinary moments into lasting memories.
Jay will be remembered in the laughter, the friendships, and the countless memories he leaves behind, and in every life made better simply because he was part of it.
Jay was born in Revere, MA, on August 27, 1972, beloved son of Esther P. “Snooky” (Doherty) McCabe and the late John J. McCabe Jr.; devoted husband to the love of his life, Anna M. Casper; loving brother to Barbara E. McCabe and the late Margaret A. McCabe; and incredibly proud uncle to Jack McCabe. Jay was also a cherished nephew and cousin, and a dearly loved relative and friend to many others.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's Funeral Mass on Saturday morning, September 19, 2026, at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial is private. There are no funeral home visiting hours. Following Jay's Funeral Mass, all are welcome to join Jay's family at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 545 Medford St. Charlestown.
In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Jay’s name to:
