Obituary

John J. "Jay" Doherty Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. He was 70 years of age.

Jay was born in Boston on February 11, 1953, a son of the late John J. Doherty and Helen F. (Carney) Doherty. Jay's schooling involved the Boston Public School system. Jay was involved in The Charlestown Special Townies program, Special Olympics and enjoyed spending time at Camp Fatima in New Hampshire.

Jay is the beloved son of the late John J. Doherty and Helen F. (Carney) Doherty. He is the loving brother of Grace McNulty and her husband Thomas. He is the dear uncle of Brian McNulty and his wife Mary Kate, Allison McNulty and her companion Joey Guarino, and Kristine McNulty.

Jay's family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care given to Jay over the last several years at 286 Edenfield Ave. Watertown (Mass. Association of the Blind Community) especially John Quintero, Marie Jocelyn, Anne Pierre, Angielance Gbozee, Julius Baguma, Said Barko, Alquayle Forde, Walid Mahgoub, Babatunde Odunuyi, Oluwayinka Olagunju, Romil Sanon, and third party relief staff: Faith, Mary, Isabella.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's Funeral Mass on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11 A.M. in St. Mary's Church (Lower Chapel), 55 Warren St. Charlestown. Parking attendants provided. His burial will be private. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
