John McColgan, a 16 year resident of Malden and formerly of Jamaica Plain and Isle of Doagh, County Donegal, Ireland, entered into eternal life suddenly on Sunday, December 19, 2021 in his home in Malden. He was 82 years of age.
John was born in Isle of Doagh, County Donegal, Ireland on June 26, 1939, a son of the late Eugene McColgan and Maggie (Devlin) McColgan. He grew up in Isle Of Doagh where he was educated. John immigrated to the United States in 1964 and settled in Jamaica Plain for many years before moving to Malden with his life partner Margaret. He worked for Bank of Boston, which later became Bank of America, for over 25 years as a warehouse receiving clerk, and for Hart Caterers for many years.
John is the beloved life partner of 50 years to Margaret Friel. He is the loving brother of the late Daniel McColgan, Mary Margaret Kerr, Raymond McColgan, Bernard McColgan, and Sheila Joyce. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Patrick Joyce and Paul Kerr. He is the caring uncle of; in Australia: Kieran Kerr, Bernadette Wales, Raymond McColgan; in England: Caroline Quinn, John and Louise Joyce, Deborah McColgan, in Ireland: Darren McColgan, Lorraine Doherty, Helena Carroll; in Northern Ireland: Sue Burns, Diedre Hamill; in Canada: Carmel Millington. He was also predeceased by his late nephew Michael McColgan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's visiting hour on Wednesday morning, December 29, 2021 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. (PER FAMILY REQUEST, FACIAL COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED INSIDE OF THE CHURCH AND FUNERAL HOME). His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
