Joseph Francis Keane a lifelong resident of Charlestown died at his home suddenly on Wednesday November 30, 2005. He was 79 years old.
Joe was born in Boston on August 12, 1926 and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. He enlisted into the United States Army on December 4, 1944 and served overseas during World War 2. He was discharged with the rank of Corporal on November 25, 1946. He began working on the Boston waterfront following his discharge from the U.S. Army, and joined the International Longshoreman's Union, and worked for over 50 years in thier local union # 799. He retired in 1990.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Mary M. (Kent) Keane. He is the devoted father of Michael J. Keane and his wife Khrystyne of Watertown, Ct. He is the loving grandfather of Lynn Francis and Sean Michael Keane. He is the brother of Leo Keane of Florida and the late Catherine Rocco, Mary, Thomas, William and James Keane. Also the dear uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Joe's Funeral will be held on Tuesday December 6, 2005 from the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 9 am. followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Catherine's Church 49 Vine St. Charlestown at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Joe will be held on Monday December 5, 2005 from 4 to 7 pm. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
