Kathleen Ann “Kathy” (McGonagle) Rae, a lifelong resident of South Boston, passed peacefully on August 27, 2026 surrounded by her beloved family and friends after a brief illness.
She was the amazing mother of Jason Rae of South Boston and Jennifer Higgins and her husband, Phil, of Abington. Kathy was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marguerite (McKenna) McGonagle. She was the cherished sister of the late Patricia Norton and her late husband Mike, the late Kenneth (Bud) and his wife Kay, the late Donald (Donny) and his wife Marilyn (Mal), the late Paul and his wife Mary, Marie Marshman and her late husband Jerry, the late Daniel (Danny), the late Robert (Bobby) and Janice Aughe and her husband Gerard. Kathy is also survived by her former husband, William Rae.
Kathy was the adored Nana to Taryn Dalton, her husband, Ryan, Jake Rae, Evan Pinnix, Emma and Cullen Higgins. Kathy was the very proud great grandmother to Taiden Rae, Giovanni, Lucciana and Giuliana Dalton. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Very dear lifelong best friend of Carol Tierney.
Kathy was a resident of South Boston and parishioner of St. Brigid Church all her life. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and even more so to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kathy was a competitive card shark, cribbage player, and crossword puzzle superfan. Quick witted and self-deprecating, Kathy was also an uplifting person who had a gentle and kind helping hand for all. She made everyone she knew feel warm, loved and the center of her attention. She will be forever missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kathy’s visiting hour on Thursday morning September 3, 2026 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. inside St. Brigid’s Church, 841 East Broadway, South Boston, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. Her burial will be private.
