Margaret T. Gillespie, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Thursday September 11, 2008 at Carney Hospital in Dorchester following a lengthy illness.
Margaret was born in Boston. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Margaret worked as a clerk for many years for the Federal Government in thier G.S.A. department.She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and longtime member of St. Mary's Church Parish of Charlestown.
Margaret is the beloved daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Shannon-Gillespie. She is the devoted sister of Dorothy Walsh of Medford, Bernadette Toomey of Squantum, the late Catherine Hughes, Ann Shannon, Mae Devine, Thomas Shannon and Joseph Gillespie. She is the loving aunt of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Margaret's Funeral will be held on Monday September 15, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Sunday September 14, 2008 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
