Obituary

Mary Rose (Sullivan) Carroll, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life by accident on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at her home. She was 71 years of age.

Mary was born in Boston on July 13, 1954, a daughter of the late Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. and Mary R. (Robbins) Sullivan. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1972. Mary worked for B & B Railroad for several years in her younger years and then began working as a Clerk for the City of Boston Liquor License Department and retired following 25 years of dedicated employment to the City of Boston.

Mary's passion in life was her family who she cherished and enjoyed all the quality moments she shared with them especially her grandchildren whom she was so very proud of their accomplishments. Mary was a caring, kind, loving person to all who knew her and had the pleasure of experiencing her warmth especially the elderly of Charlestown where she dedicated herself tirelessly at the Ferrin St. building. She was always putting the other person before herself where she was the Senior Coordinator and trip planner for the senior citizens at the Ferrin St. complex. She began the Friends of Charlestown Elderly many years ago looking to improve the quality of life for the senior citizens of Charlestown and never looking for any notoriety for her good deeds. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed doing puzzles and word searches.

Mary is the beloved wife of 52 years to James J. “Jimmy” Carroll Jr. She is the devoted mother of Jamie Carroll and his wife Elizabeth, Michael Carroll, and Colleen Hall and her husband Jon. She is the Special Ma to Quinlan and Aidan, and Nana Ma to Benjamin, James, Mae, and Matthew. She is the dear sister of Daniel J. Sullivan III and his wife Donna, George J. Sullivan and his wife Patricia, William P. Sullivan and his late wife Roberta, Joseph E. Sullivan and his wife Donalyn, and the late Thomas F. Sullivan and his surviving wife Marianne. She is the sister-in-law of Sandy Cotter, Patricia Miller, and Peggy Considine. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and her dear special friends Lori Barrett and Mary Mirdik.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary’s Funeral on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. Her burial will will be private. Her visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
