Michael J. "Smokey" Cain, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Kaplan Family Hospice house following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61 years of age.

Smokey was born in Boston on October 25, 1964, a son of the late James E. Cain and Eleanor M. (Ahearn) Cain. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School System and was a proud graduate of Boston Latin School.

Smokey is the beloved father of Melanie Cain, Sheena Centola, Jacob Pratt, Jackie Pratt, and the late Michael Cain II. He is the loving Papa of Colin, Anaya, Jason, Aaliyah, Michaelyn, and Aaliyah Pratt. He is the dear brother of the late Kevin and Jimmy Cain. He is survived by the mother of his children and life partner, Lisa Centola, and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Smokey's funeral on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
