Peter Pappas, Sr., a 60 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of Woburn, died on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at The Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury after an extended illness. He was 91 years old.
Peter was born in Woburn, where he grew up and attended Woburn Public Schools and graduated from Woburn High School in 1935. He worked as a machine operator for a few years at Cambridge Rubber Company. He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country during World War 2. He later operated a barber shop in Woburn know as Pappas Barber Shop and retired from that in 1975. He is a member of The V.F.W. and American Legion Post # 26 of Charlestown.
Peter is the beloved husband of the late Mary C. (McMahon) Pappas. He is the devoted father of Peter G. Pappas of Charlestown, Barbara Coyman of Chelsea, John C. Pappas and his wife Marie of Medford and Virginia L. Upton of Charlestown. He is the loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of the late Spiro and Charlie Pappas.
Peter's Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in The Chapel of St. Michael The Archangel at The Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
