Retired Boston Firefighter, Joseph P. "Joe" Hurley, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life at his home in Charlestown on Saturday, November 19, 2022 . He was 78 years of age.
Joe was born in Boston on July 24, 1944, a son of the late Patrick J. Hurley and Alice (Johnson) Hurley. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Joe was appointed to the Boston Fire Department on December 18, 1974 and assigned to Ladder Company 2 in East Boston. Joe was later transferred to Engine Company 50 in Charlestown where he proudly served most of his career as a Firefighter for the people of Charlestown. He retired from the Marine Unit on June 30, 2009 following 35 years of dedicated service as a Firefighter for the City of Boston. He was a retired member of The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718. Joe was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus and The Halligan Club of Charlestown. Joe was a proud Townie and dedicated to his family.
Joe is the beloved husband of 38 years to Pamela S. "Pam" (Reilly) Hurley. He is the devoted father of Joseph P. Hurley II and his wife Shannon, and Jacqueline M. Hurley and her boyfriend Patrick Fidler-O'Neil. He is the loving PA to Brynn. He is the beloved brother of Rae O'Neil, Arthur Hurley, William Hurley, Maryellen Martin, Annemarie Darling and the late Catherine Bartlett. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's Funeral on Saturday morning, November 26, 2022 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
