Richard E. McDonald, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Grosvenor Park Nursing Center in Salem following an extended illness. He was 83 years old.
Richard was born in Boston on September 17, 1933, son of the late Frank McDonald and Mary (Peterson) McDonald. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Richard enlisted into the United States Army on March 16, 1951 and served his country faithfully and with pride during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on February 16, 1953 with the rank of Private First Class. Richard worked as a Time Keeper for General Dynamics in Quincy for many years. Richard was a history buff who also enjoyed reading and was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus.
Richard is the beloved son of the late Frank McDonald and Mary (Peterson) McDonald. He is the devoted brother of James McDonald and his wife Donna of Swampscott, Marjorie Fuller of Medford and the late Joseph McDonald and his surviving wife Bonnie of Medford, Kenneth McDonald, Marsha Zimmerman, Frank McDonald and David McDonald. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. He is the dear friend of Frank Keane of Charlestown.
Richard's Funeral Services and burial will be private.
