Obituary

Rita M. (Scannell) Mahoney, a 48 year resident of Wakefield, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Thelma Lacey House in Charlestown following an extended illness. She was 92 years old.

Rita was born in Boston on September 23, 1918 to the late Michael D. and Annie (Moriarty) Scannell. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1939. Rita worked for many years at New England Telephone Company.

Rita is the beloved wife of the late James J. Mahoney. She is the devoted sister of the late Helen McCluskey, Sr. Audrey Scannell C.S.J., Joseph, James, Edward, Michael and Timothy Scannell. She is the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's Funeral on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Wakefield/Melrose line followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m.
