Obituary

Robert S. Torres, a 60 year resident of Melrose, died in Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following an extended illness. He was 87 years old.

Robert was born in Medford on January 17, 1923 to the late Frank and Auzille (Popart) Torres. He grew up in Medford where he attended Medford Public Schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1940. He enlisted into the United States Navy on January 23, 1943 and served his country faithfully on a submarine in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged on March 13, 1948 with the rank of Electrician's Mate Third Class. He worked for more than 40 years at Raytheon Corporation in Waltham as a foreman and retired in 1986. He was a member of Harold O. Young V.F.W. Post 2394 of Melrose.

Robert is the beloved husband of 63 years to Rita M. (Thibodeau) Torres. He is the devoted father of Ethel M. Torres of Melrose and Janice M. Gillcrist and her partner Patrick M. O'Hearn of Melrose. He is the brother of the late Frank Torres.

At Robert's request, his Funeral Services and burial will be private.
