Obituary

Ruth E. Smith, a longtime resident of Charlestown, died on Friday, September 17, 2010 at Cambridge City Hospital in Cambridge following an extended illness. She was 78 years old.

Ruth was born in The West End of Boston on March 2, 1932 to the late Earl W. and Mary C. (Williams) Smith. She grew up in the West End of Boston and attended Boston Public Schools. She has been a homemaker most of her life caring for her children. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruth is the devoted mother of Maureen Stout of Malden, Jean Smith of Malden, Joan Smith and her fiance Stephen of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Cynthia Smith-Evans and her husband Johnnie of Everett. She is the loving Nana to Marc and his wife Kelley, Ashley, Kevin, Jackie, Jenna and her great-grandchildren; Bailey, Nathan, Saddie and Sophia. She is the beloved sister of Virginia, Rita, Earl Jr., Arthur and George. She is also survived by her many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth's Memorial Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown.
