Obituary

Sharon A. (McNeil) Fitzgerald LPN, a 55-year resident of Billerica and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at her home in Billerica. She was 78 years of age.

Sharon was born in Somerville on November 2, 1947, a daughter of the late retired Boston Firefighter James A. McNeil and Mildred E. "Millie" (Austin) McNeil. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School in 1965. Sharon furthered her education later in life and attended Tewksbury State Hospital School of Nursing and received her Nursing Degree. She worked at Tewksbury State Hospital as a Nurse for over 30 years. Sharon enjoyed vacationing as a young girl at York Beach, Maine and continued that with her own family for many years. She also enjoyed vacationing with her sisters-in-law taking cruise vacations and spending time at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. Sharon was always known for her stylish attire and could be considered as a professional shopper at times.

Family was paramount in Sharon's life, where she dedicated herself to her husband and 3 sons. While bringing up her 3 sons, she could be considered a hockey Mom and was always traveling to hockey rinks throughout the state of Massachusetts and New England. As her sons grew so did Sharon's travel plans where she would now be visiting hockey rinks all over the country and into Canada. As the next generation of Sharon's family came along, she found herself again traveling to many skating rinks to support her grandsons and was also occupied with dance recitals and other sports activities with her granddaughters. Sharon was quiet and unassuming but was very proud of her 3 boys and the accomplishments they each attained in their lives and how each of their families have been successful.

Sharon is the beloved wife of the late Thomas R. "Tommy" Fitzgerald. She is the devoted mother of Tom Fitzgerald and his wife Kerry, Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Stephanie and Bryan Fitzgerald and his wife Amy. She is the loving Nana to Ryan and his wife Annie, Casey and his fiancé Elizabeth, Jack, Brendan, Nolan, Riley, Shae, Second Lieutenant Liam U.S. Army, Devin, Addison and her great-granddaughter Lucy. She is the beloved sister of the late retired Boston Firefighter James "Crash" McNeil and his wife Joanne and the late Brian McNeil and his wife Patti. She is the beloved sister-in-law of Gerry Tkachuk and her husband retired Boston Fire Department Captain John "Chuck". She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Sharon's Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 10 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. THERE ARE NO FUNERAL HOME VISITING HOURS. CHURCH WILL NOT ACCEPT FLOWERS.
