Obituary

William "Bill" E. Burke, a lifelong Charlestown resident, entered into eternal life on Monday, July 20, 2026, at his home in Charlestown. He was 86 years of age.

Bill was born in Boston on March 6, 1940, a son of the late Martin J. Burke and Mildred M. (Blakie) Burke. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Bill has been known for well over 30 years as the "Maintenance Man" for Mishawum housing complex in Charlestown. He dedicated his life to helping the residence of Mishawum, caring for all their needs and was known for fixing anything. Prior to working for Mishawum, Bill worked as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local # 25. Bill was a family man true and true and he dedicated his life to caring for his wife, children and grandchildren without any fanfare.

Bill is the beloved husband of the late Kathleen A. "Kathy" (Myers) Burke. He is the devoted father of Colleen Cadger, Timothy Burke and his wife Sharon Whitt, Susan Zimmerle and her partner Bobby Monzione, Kellie Burke, Katie Burke and the late William E. "Bill" Burke Jr. He is the loving Papa to Eryn, Anthony, David Jr., Niccilina, Dylan, Daryn, Molly, Krystal, Mark Jr., Jared, Hayleigh, Ryllie, Jaiden, Peyton, and his great-grandchildren Izzie, Nayomi, Finnley, Sloane, Alice and Oliver. He is the beloved brother of Steve Burke and his late wife Beatrice and the late Joseph Burke and John Burke. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill's Funeral on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be private. His visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
