William H. "Billy" Plummer, a longtime resident of Wakefield, entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Chelsea Soldiers Home in Chelsea following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old.
Billy was born in Portland, Maine on April 27, 1925, a son of the late Edgar A. Plummer and Fannie M. (Storer) Plummer. He grew up in Malden for a short time before his family moved to Wakefield in 1939 where he was educated in the Wakefield Public School system. He enlisted into the United States Army on July 19, 1950 and served his country with honor and courage while receiving the Purple Heart for his bravery during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on July 19, 1953 with the rank of Private First Class. Billy worked for Hostess Cakes Company for 22 years before becoming a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He retired from the Postal Service several years ago after 20 years of faithful service.
Billy is the devoted brother of Roberta Gallagher of Ipswich, Margaret DeCecca of Wilmington and the late Walter Bickford, Wesley Bickford, Edgar Plummer, Beatrice Plummer and Patricia Plummer. He is the loving uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
